A typical classic car full body restoration can take 6-12 months to complete. It is an exacting and iterative process which cannot be rushed. Half the joy of owning and bringing back to life a classic car is being part of the experience, contributing to the process and being one of the team that assesses the priorities as the car is stripped back to its bare bones.
We welcome owners who want to be involved and part of the process. As well as building a comprehensive photographic record of the restoration to share with you as the work progresses, we would hope to welcome you to our workshops to meet the team and see first-hand the care and attention being lavished on your classic car restoration, not to mention the sweat, occasional tears (and infrequent blood!) that are part of a classic car panel repairs.
Our skilled craftsmen, working as a team will restore your classic to its former glory and very often due to the use of modern materials, better performing parts and the hand built nature of our work, your car will be better finished and better performing than when new. Whether it is a minor refurbishment or a full bare metal restoration the process contains four key phases.
Strip and assessment
This stage must be completed thoroughly before any restoration can begin. This includes an initial inspection by one our senior technicians who will work with you to define the level of restoration required and advise on an initial ballpark figure for your restoration. Following this is the full mechanical and structural stripping of the car and the boxing and labelling of all components.
For a full bare metal restoration, the shell will be media blasted to remove all existing finishes. Our classic car fabrication and welding experts will advise on which panels require rust repair or replacing. At this stage you will be advised of any change to the initial quote and a full detailed quotation will be created before the next stage begins.
Whether a mechanical, structural or cosmetic restoration is required only our skilled classic car restorers using the best materials and specialist tools will transform your tired bodywork and worn mechanicals to an as new condition. Our classic car paint shop will lay down the two fill coats before the primer coat is applied. All flatting and sanding is by hand, creating a peerless finish ready to receive the final top coat and lacquer. Our classic car trimming shop will refurbish or recover the interior as required.
All chrome work is re-chromed, re-plating is carried out as required and new or vintage parts sourced to bring your classic car back to its former glory.
In this stage we unite all of the restored and rebuilt elements along with new or vintage parts installing them by hand with great care. Only the best people with the right attention to detail can create the immaculate shut-gaps and perfect finishing we demand. Your car will be hand built by us, achieving a fit and finish that is superior to the day it left the factory.
Test and finish
In the final stage everything comes together rapidly as we prepare your car for final handover. This includes testing of all the mechanical and electrical components, brakes, transmission body seals and final polish and detailing. Your classic car will be test driven by our senior team and only be handed over once any final adjustments have been made. You will then be invited to test drive your car and report back on anything you feel still needs our attention. We are only satisfied with the finished car when you are.
